Who can join a family member in Canada (current IRCC rules; check before applying).
Spouse of a Student (SOWP)
Spouses of students in eligible master's programs (16+ months), doctoral programs and certain professional degree programs may get an open work permit.
Spouse of a Worker (SOWP)
Spouses of workers in TEER 0/1 jobs and selected TEER 2/3 occupations, with enough time left on the work permit.
Dependent Children
Children can apply for a visitor record or study permit to accompany a parent; dependent-child open work permits were removed in 2025.
Family of PR / Citizens

Dependants must show set maintenance funds unless the sponsor certifies maintenance.
