IRCC Application Status Tracker: Know More
Canada has brought back its Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Application Status Tracker, giving eligible immigration applicants a way to monitor the progress of their applications online. The service became available again on October 14, 2026, after being taken offline earlier this year for technical and security-related improvements.
The relaunched tool is intended to help applicants understand which stages of their immigration applications have been completed and whether any further action is required.
Which Immigration Applications Can Be Tracked?

The IRCC Application Status Tracker supports several temporary and permanent immigration application categories. Eligible applicants can use the service to check the progress of:
- Study permits for international students planning to Study in Canada.
- Work permits for foreign nationals seeking authorization to work in Canada.
- Visitor visas for people travelling to Canada temporarily.
- Express Entry applications, including the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.
- Provincial Nominee Program applications submitted through eligible Express Entry pathways.
- Family sponsorship applications for a spouse, partner or dependent child.
Applicants should consult the official IRCC website to confirm whether their specific application is supported by the tracker.
Five Status Indicators Explain Application Progress
The updated tracker provides information about individual application requirements, helping users understand where their files stand during processing.
The system may display one of five statuses for each component:
- Not started: IRCC has not yet begun reviewing that part of the application.
- Waiting on you: The applicant needs to provide additional information or documents.
- In progress: The relevant assessment or verification is still underway.
- Completed: IRCC has finished reviewing that component.
- Exempted: The applicant is not required to complete that particular requirement.
The tracker also provides an overall application status, which may appear as received, in progress or closed. These indicators help applicants distinguish between an application that has been received and one that has progressed further through the assessment process.
However, a completed component does not necessarily mean that the entire application has been approved. Applicants must wait for an official decision from IRCC.
Application Information Is Updated Daily
According to IRCC's tracker information, account details are updated daily. Applicants can therefore return to the service to check for changes in their application progress.
The tracker can be useful for people waiting for medical examination reviews, eligibility assessments, biometric processing or background verification. It can also help applicants identify when further information may be needed from them.
Nevertheless, the status displayed online should not be treated as a guaranteed processing timeline or a prediction of the final decision.
What Do You Need to Access the Tracker?
Applicants must receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) before they can use the Application Status Tracker. The AOR confirms that IRCC has received the application and that it has passed the initial completeness check.
To access the service, eligible users generally need:
- Their application number.
- Their Unique Client Identifier (UCI).
- Access to an eligible sign-in method, such as GCKey or a supported banking sign-in option.
The tracker is available to principal applicants, sponsors, authorized representatives and individuals who have written authorization to access another person's application.
Those who have submitted an application but have not yet received an AOR must wait until it is issued before using this particular tracking service.
Why Was the Tracker Taken Offline?
IRCC previously disabled the older version of the Application Status Tracker on May 14, 2026.
A ministerial briefing note published in September 2026 indicated that the service had been taken offline to address concerns involving outdated information and potential security vulnerabilities. Its return follows efforts to improve the online service.
IRCC has also advised users who experience difficulties signing in or viewing their application details to use other available methods of checking application status.
What Should Applicants Do Next?
Applicants who already have an AOR can visit the official Government of Canada website and sign in to check their application progress.
If the tracker does not work or does not provide the information required, applicants can explore alternative status-checking options through IRCC's official website. They should also monitor their email and IRCC account for requests for additional documents or other important communications.
The relaunch offers a useful way to follow immigration application progress, but applicants should remember that online status updates are informational. Only an official IRCC decision confirms the outcome of an application.
